Dry needling is a form of treatment that can help to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by Trigger points, fascia tension and pulls, neurological pain, radiculopathy, and reduced Range of motion in joints and muscles.
Dry needling works by inserting a fine needle into a point of tension or dysfunction. Doing this can cause the muscle to spasm or twitch, this can release the tension and reduce or eliminate the pain. Inserting dry needles into tight muscles around joints that have limited range of motion can minimise the tension around the joint and allow for increased mobility.
Dry needling is not the same as Acupuncture, although there can be similarities. While the idea of Dry needling might be disturbing or scary, it can be less painful than massage and have the same or an increased benefit over other manual therapies. Dry needling can be incorporated into a remedial massage treatment, or it can be a standalone treatment.
